Hello,
1. put on/gain weight: to get fatter and heavier
He had put on weight since she last saw him.
I put on several pounds while I was on holiday, so now I'm on a strict diet.
2. beer gut/belly: n. (informal) an unattractive fat stomach caused by drinking too much beer
4. love handles: (informal) deposits of excess fat at a person's waistline
People believe that the origin of the term "love handles" derives from the ability to rest your arms on the fat layer when holding someone close to you.
Losing weight is not easy, especially in problem areas such as the belly, love handles and a double chin.
5. spare tire: n. (informal) a ring of fat around the waist
You should go on a diet—look at that spare tire!
6. middle-age spread: n. the fat around the stomach that some people develop in middle age
A lot of people start to get middle-age spread once they pass 30.
7. chubby: adj. slightly fat in a way that people usually find attractive
Aah, look at his chubby little hands!
8. plump: adj. slightly fat in a fairly pleasant way – used especially about women or children, often to avoid saying the word ‘fat’ 丰满的,胖乎乎的(尤指女性和儿童,常为避免说出fat一词)
The doctor's wife had a plump face and a small mouth.
9. overweight: adj. (of people) too heavy and fat
My mother is about 50 pounds overweight.
grossly overweight(=extremely overweight)意思是“严重超重”。
10. beefy: adj. strong but also a little fat and unattractive
The second prisoner was a fat-faced beefy fellow who smelled of sweat.
portly:adj.
hefty:adj.
burly:adj.
podgy/pudgy:adj.
An individual human existence should be like a river—small at first, narrowly continued with in its bank, and rushing passionately past boulders and over water-falls.
