on 是很基础的介词，意思是在……上，但 on the table 不只是在桌子上，它还是一个固定短语，表示被提交讨论，
老外说 on the table，意思就是某事正在商量中，也就是说这件事还有的商量。
on the table 的意思很好理解。毕竟，重要的事情总是要放到台面上讨论一番，开个会再做决定。
这个表达的反义词就是 off the table，意思就是不予讨论，表示某事没有商量的余地。
例句：Your application for student loan is on the table.你的助学贷款申请已经被提交讨论了。
nine-nine table 是什么意思？

除了桌子，table 还有表格的含义，timetable 就是时刻表。
- multiplication table / times table 乘法表
- nine-nine table 九九乘法表
- timetable 时间表；时刻表
times 有乘以的含义，三乘三等于九要这么翻译：
Three times three equals nine.
乘法表要说 times table，更正式的说法还有 multiplication table.
nine-nine table 不是九十九张桌子，而是我们小学都背过的九九乘法表。
例句：
This boy has not learned the nine-nine table by heart.
这个男孩还没背熟九九乘法表。
high table 不是高桌子
high table 贵宾席
high table 并不是高高的桌子，而是贵宾席，那里的席位都是留给最重要的客人的。
high season 旅游旺季
low season 旅游淡季
high season 不是高高的季节，而是旅游的旺季。low 是 high 的反义词，所以旅游淡季要说 low season.
例句：The bridegroom made a toast to guests who sat at high table in the wedding party.婚宴上，新郎给贵宾席上的客人敬了酒。
wait at tables ≠ 在桌上等

wait (on) table(s) （美式）
wait at tables 的意思不是在桌上等，而是当服务员。毕竟，在顾客点单的时候，服务员要一直站在桌子旁边等他们做出决定。
wait at tables 这个说法在英国很常见，美国人说的是 wait on tables.
wait on someone 服侍；伺候
wait on someone 的意思也不是等某人，而是服侍某人。服务员除了帮客人点单外，也需要提供其他的服务。
