一般过去时的用法一般过去时是表示过去经常或偶然发生的动作，或存在的状态的时态。一般过去时的谓语动词要用动词的过去式形式。 (1)表示过去某个时候发生的动作或存在的状态，常与确切的表示过去的时间状语连用和过去时连用的时间状语有：last night，yesterdaylast week, some years ago, in 1995, in the past,the other day，at that timejust now 等He went to Beijing with his father last Sunday.上周日他与他父亲去了北京。When did you come to this city?你什么时候来这个城市的？ (2)表示过去经常或反复发生的动作通常与频度副词连用always，usuallyoften，sometimesnever 等He often came to help the old man when he was 15.他15岁时，经常来帮助这位老人。 (3)讲故事、对过去经历的回忆、双方都明白的过去事件等一般用过去时，而且经常省略时间状语I happened to meet your father in the street.我正好在街上遇到了你父亲。 (4)表示过去未指明具体时间的动作He played in the park for two hours.他在公园玩了两个小时。She once went to Canada.她曾去过加拿大。 (5)表示过去常常或反复发生的动作，也可以用“ used to 动词原形 ”或“ would 动词原形 ” I used to be a teacher.我过去曾是一名教师。She would talk to herself for hours.她过去常常自言自语数小时。 (6)在复合句中，当主句是过去将来时，其时间/条件状语从句用一般过去时Tom said he would come to see me if he had time.汤姆说如果他有空会来看我的。It would be ten o'clock when he came back.当他回来时将会是10点了。 注意:① 一般过去时表示的动作或状态都已成为过去，现已不复存在Mrs.Darby lived in Changsha for seven years.达比太太曾在长沙住了7年。（达比太太已不住在长沙了） ② 用过去时表示现在，表示委婉语气I wondered if you could help me.我想知道你是否能帮我。Could you lend me your bike？你能把你的自行车借给我吗？ ③ since从句一般用一般过去时You haven't changed much since we last met.自从上次我们见面以来，你变化不大。 ④ 表示一系列的动作，尽管有先后，都用一般过去时，最后两个动词之间用and连接He opened the door，rushed out and then disappeared.他打开门，冲出去，然后消失了。 ⑤ used to do“ 过去常常 ”表示过去习惯性的动作或状态，但如今已不存在be used to doing“ 习惯于 ”to介词，后需加名词或动名词I used to get up early in the morning.我过去常常起得早。He is used to driving in China.他已习惯在中国开车了。
