戊子中秋夜,
珠江赏月明。
晴空千里阔,
亮地万人行。
遥见一星动,
实是孔明灯。
近听猫狗叫,
顽儿举塑笼。
时闻鞭炮响,
多处礼花明。
回家遇门卫,
也谈值夜更。

On the evening of the Wu-Zi Mid-autumn Festival,
I enjoyed the full moon at the Pearl River stroll.
The clear sky was thousands of kilometers wide;
The bright ground was walked on by tens and thousands of people.
Far away a star was seen moving;
Actually it was a Kong Ming lantern.
Close by cats and dogs were heard mewing and barking;
In fact they were children playing with plastic toys.
Occasionally firecrackers were exploding;
At many places fireworks were sparking.
On my way back I met the door keeper;
We talked about practicing night-shift duty.
