Today I want to talk to you about Qingming Festival.
今天我想和大家聊一聊清明节。
During this period, the weather turns warmer and sometimes drizzly, and all of the plants start germinating.
这段时期，天气转暖，时常细雨蒙蒙，所有的植物都开始发芽。
The Qingming observance originated way back in ancient China.
清明的习俗要追溯到古代的中国。
Chinese people use this traditional holiday to give thanks to their ancestors, to cherish the memory of departed relatives, to cultivate filial piety, and to reconnect with family members.
中国人会借这个传统的节日向自己的祖先表示感谢，缅怀已故的亲人，推崇孝道，组织家庭聚会。
Besides demonstrating respect to their ancestors, people also take this opportunity to travel together and go on long walks in parks and in the outskirts of the city.
除了向祖先表示敬意，人们还会借此机会一同游玩，或是在公园和郊外到处走走。
Children play together and use willow branches to make things.
孩子们会聚在一起玩耍，用柳条编制小玩意。
They pick wildflowers, and are free to play as much as they want.
他们采摘野花，尽情游玩，无拘无束。
So there's another nickname for Qingming Festival, "Taqing," which literally means: to walk on the green grass.
因此清明节又称之为"踏青"，字面意思就是：走在草地上。
There's a famous scroll painting called "Along the River During the Qingming Festival".
有一幅著名的卷轴画，名为《清明上河图》。
It vividly depicts a bustling scene full of people spending Qingming Festival in the capital of the Song Dynasty.

Wow, I had no idea that China already had such a large population way back in the day.

It kind of makes me think of the Beijing subway during rush hour.

Although cherishing the memory of departed relatives and friends can make people feel sad, it really feels quite nice to walk on the green grass during the Qingming Festival.
虽说缅怀已故亲友会让人感到悲伤，但清明节在绿油油的草地上散步却也十分惬意。
The festival and the spring outing really pair up quite nicely together.
这个节日和春游简直是完美的搭配。
There are lots of fun, traditional activities that Chinese people enjoy during their spring outing.

For example, planting trees, swinging on swings, or playing an ancient Chinese football game called Cuju.

A romantic pastime in China is to go on a traditional Chinese-style swing, and I really like it, even though I always end up going alone.
