“熟词偏义”是英语中常见的情况，看似每个单词都认识，连在一起就不知道是什么意思。比如下面的表达：
01、fat chance是什么意思？
fat chance 美 [fæt tʃæns] 没戏;不可能;希望渺茫。
所以与你想象中的不同，fat chance 意思是不好的机会。
例句：
①Fat chanceI can get a ticket for the concert.
我很难有机会得到音乐会的票了。
②We will have afat chanceto win the game on Saturday.
我们几乎没有可能赢得星期六的比赛。
02、slim chance
slim chance美 [slɪm tʃæns] 渺茫的机会。
例句：
①There's still aslim chancethat he may become Prime Minister.
他仍然有一丝希望当上首相。
②There was now only aslim chance of escape.
此时逃脱的机会极小。
这么看都是一样的意思，其实还是有区别的。在英语俚语里面，fat chance 表示的是“机会渺茫”，甚至是“没戏、没门”（not a chance）的意思，比 slim chance 的机会还要小一点。
03、good chance
chance 美 [tʃæns]
n. (尤指希望发生的事的)可能性;机会;机遇;时机;风险;冒险
v. 冒险;拿…去冒风险;偶然发生;碰巧
adj. 意外的;偶然的;碰巧的
可以看到希望发生的事情里可能是好的，也可能是有风险的。所以"good chance"表示的某事发生的可能性很大，可能是好的，也可能是坏的。
例句：
①No I forgot to enter my name. I missed agood chance.
没有，我忘了报名了。我错过了这个好机会。
②Both you and she have agood chanceof getting the job.
你和她都很有机会得到那份工作。
3、“抓住机会”英语怎么说？
①jump at the chance
例句：
I would jump at the chanceto join.
我会抓住机会参加的。
② grasp/ grab the chance
例句：
We should grab the chanceto improve ourselves.
我们应该抓住机会提升我们自己。
But it is important to grasp the chance when it comes.
但在机会来临时，能够及时把握才是关键。
