因前总统老布什葬礼而延期的第61届格莱美提名名单本月7日公布。说唱歌手Kendrick Lamar获得8项提名，领跑今年的入围名单。同样是说唱歌手的Drake获得7项提名，将于Kendrick Lamar正面“拼杀”多个奖项。女歌手方面，乡村、民谣创作歌手卡莉（Brandi Carlile）表现出色，获得包括三项大奖在内的6项提名。
近年来，格莱美颁奖由于女性代表人数不足，使得主办方录音学院（The Recording Academy）饱受抨击。为了增强多样性，主办方近年将所有奖项的提名人数从5个增加至8个。今年8名入围年度专辑的歌手中有5人都是女性，入围最佳新艺术家的也有6名女性。
拉马尔、德雷克和卡莉三人今年都入围包括年度制作、年度专辑和年度歌曲的三项重要大奖的提名。Cardi B, Lady Gaga, Childish Gambino, Maren Morris, H.E.R等分获五项提名。
为了纪念格莱美设立60周年，去年的第60届颁奖典礼被搬回纽约举行。但第61届格莱美颁奖将于2019年2月10日在洛杉矶的斯台普斯中心举行。
