今日文章解读：②One night, however, our vicar work up with a start: the clock was striking the hours! Looking at his watch, he saw that it was one o'clock, but the bell struck thirteen times before it stopped.
一天夜里，我们的牧师突然被惊醒了，大钟又在“打点”报时了!他一看表，才1点钟，可是那钟一边敲了13下才停。
however表示“然而，可是”的意思，它作为并列连词，使用起来非常灵活，基本可用于句子中的任何位置，但要留意标点的使用。比如：
① 当使用however连接两个句子时，前面要用分号。
I feel a bit tired; however, it’s probably the alcohol. 我觉得有点累，可能是因为酒精吧。
② 当however用在句中时，通常用于主语或句首短语后，使用逗号隔开。
I have some weaknesses. That, however, doesn't mean I cannot succeed. 我有一些弱点。然而，这并不意味着我不能成功。
③ 当however用在句尾时，前面加逗号即可。
Your work is all right; there is room for improvement, however. 工作做得还行，但仍在提升的空间。
在这个句子里我提示一点就是room这个单词。我们都知道它表示“房间”，只要过了高中阶段，你看到的room往往表示“空间”的意思，这个“空间”不仅局限于物理上的空间，也存在于某种意义上的空间。比如
There is still plenty of room for innovation today. 如今仍然有很多创新的空间。
时间状语从句就是用于表达主句发生时间的句子，之所以叫从句是说明该句子是从属于主句的，往往从句的句子成分是不完整的。在本文中有两个时间状语从句，我拎出来大家一起来区分一下。
① 现在分词短语的时间状语从句
looking at his watch, he saw that … 从he saw that开始是主句，而前面的looking at his watch中就缺少了主语。这种状语从句在我们以后的作文中非常的实用。老师反复强调不要写简单句，而各种从句的补充会使句子变得长而丰满，并且写起来也很简单，同学要多加练习。
Turning the corner, she saw him standing there. 转过拐角，她看见他就站在那里。（这怕就是转角遇到爱吧）
② before关联词引导的时间状语从句
引导时间状语从句的关联词有很多，如果常见的after，until，when，while，once等等。在使用这些表示时间状语的连词时，通常从句不使用将来时。
I have something to tell you before you go. 你走之前我有一些事情要告诉你。
