中文里，如果我们不开心，会有“哭丧着脸；拉着脸”这样的说法，在英文中，其实也有相似的表达，就是我们今天要说的“a long face”.

go back a long way
英文释义：(of two or more people) to have known each other for a long time
用来形容两个人或多人认识很久了。

lose face
英文释义：to be less respected or look stupid because of something you have done

还有一种说法是来自于内战时期的军事仪式，如果一名军官即将被革职，会用到敲鼓这种仪式。
