One of your friends recently had a birthday celebration, but you missed it and you forgot to tell your friend that you couldn't attend.

Dear Adam,
First and foremost, Happy Birthday Adam! And second, I’m truly sorry for missing your birthday and the awesome celebration I’m sure took place, but I’m even more sorry for not informing you that I was going to be absent. Trust me, I know how rude it is.
The thing is though, that night I was on the phone for most of the night. I was dealing with that situation I had mentioned to you before, and there were several issues that needed to be dealt with and in the mix, I became engrossed in dealing with a number of problems. I finished the call at 2 a.m., and by that point, I needed to sleep.
Please accept my apologies, and in order to make up for my non-appearance and rudeness, let me take you and Joanne to Big Pasta on Dean’s Street. The food is bar none and the wine selection is vast. How would next Friday be for you both? Anyway, let me know and I hope to see you at the start of the weekend and I’ll fill you in on the details!
