前两天有同学问吉米老师，spring 是“春天”，chicken 是“鸡”，那 spring chicken 就是“春天的鸡”吗？
不能只看字面意思哦，spring chicken 不是“春天的鸡”，spring fever 也不是“春天发烧”。和 spring 相关的表达还有很多，和吉米老师一起看看吧~

这个俚语源于 18 世纪早期，那时候的农民发现春天出生的鸡比冬天出生的鸡卖得更好。毕竟在春天，刚出生的鸡是嫩鸡，冬天的鸡已经是老鸡了。到后来，人们就用 spring chicken 来表示“年轻人”，还可以表示“没有经验的人”。
不过如果是在说菜名，那 spring chicken 意思就是“童子鸡、仔鸡、嫩鸡”，不一定是春天的鸡。“烤仔鸡”就可以说 roasted spring chicken。
例句：
Twenty years have passed and she is no spring chicken.
二十年过去了，她已经不再年轻了。
have a spring fever
春困
fever /'fiːvə/ 是“发烧”，但 have a spring fever 不是“春天发烧”，它有两种意思，第一种是“春燥症”，指的是春天天气一回温，人们就突然觉得精力充沛，想出去户外活动。
第二种意思和第一种正相反，表示“春困”，指人们到了春天就感到困倦、疲乏、想睡觉。
例句：
1. Let's go out and have fun. I guess I have a spring fever.
我们出去玩吧，我感觉我有春燥症。
2. You would feel sleepy all the time when you have a spring fever.
春困的时候你会一直想睡觉。

≠春天的脚步

步伐轻快
spring in one's step 什么意思？脚步里的春天？这里的 spring 不是“春天”的意思，而是“弹簧”，走路的时候感觉脚下有弹簧，形容一个人走路步伐轻快的样子。
例句：
Is there any good news? You have a spring in your step.
有什么好消息吗？看你步履轻快的样子。
full of the joys of spring
快乐活跃的
这里的 joy 表示“令人有趣的事，乐趣”，是可数名词，joy of ...意思就是“...的乐趣”。full of the joys of spring 字面意思是“充满了春天的乐趣”，通常是用来形容人的，表示一个人心情好。
例句：
She is full of the joys of spring. She must have got a good grade.
她满心欢喜，肯定考了个好成绩。
spring into action
≠春天的行动
spring into action
马上行动
在这个短语里，spring 不是名词而是动词，表示“跳起、跃起”，动作非常快。“她突然朝我冲过来”就可以说 she sprang out at me。spring into action 是固定表达，表示“马上行动”。
例句：
We should spring into action and get things done.
我们应该立即行动起来，把事情做成。
spring to mind
突然想到
前面吉米老师讲了 spring into action，spring to mind 应该好理解了。某件事突然跳进脑海里，意思就是“突然想到某事”。但要注意 spring into action 不能说成 spring to action，spring to mind 也不能说成 spring into mind。
例句：

当我们谈到春天的时候，我脑海里立马浮现了“希望”这个词。
