暨南大学前身是1907年成立的暨南学堂，此后经历国立暨南学校、国立暨南大学时期，1949年，部分院系合并于复旦大学、交通大学等高校，1958年重建，1978年，暨南大学再度复办。1981年，成为全国高校中第一批具有学位授予权的单位。

Jinan University, formerly known as Jinan Academy, was founded in 1907. After that, it experienced the period of National Jinan University and National Jinan University.
