People who live in Britain needn't despair when they made mistakes like this (and a lot of people do)! Fortunately for them, the Bank of England has a team called Mutilated Ladies which deals with claims from people who fed their money to a machine or to their dog. Dogs, it seems, love to chew up money!

当英国人犯这种错误时，他们不必感到绝望(而许多国家的人都有这种绝望的感觉)。对英国人来说，值得庆幸的是英国银行有一个残钞鉴别组，负责理那些把钱塞进机器或塞给狗的人提出的索赔要求。看起来，狗很喜欢咀嚼钱币。

（1）need可分情态动词和实义动词

①need作情态动词时，多用于疑问句和否定句中

You need tell no one. 你不必告诉别人。

②need作情态动词，加完成式，可用于表示过去未实现的动作

She needn’t have gone to the club last week. 她上周其实不必去俱乐部。（实际去了）

③need作实义动词

She didn’t need to go to the club last week. 她上周没有必要去俱乐部。（实际确实没有去）

④must的否定式为need not而不是must not

must表示需要做某事

need not表示不必需做某事

must not表示不准做某事

所以当我们问，我必须做某事吗？我们一般回答，You need not.而不是You must not.

（2）句型分析

Fortunately for them, / the Bank of England has a team ( called Mutilated Ladies / which deals with claims from people) (who fed their money to a machine or to their dog).

这个句子咋看有点长，但慢慢看，学会断句，就能看出修饰关系，意思也就明了了。

the Bank of England has a team是主句。其他均为修饰。

a team (called Mutilated Ladies)，修饰team。

a team called Mutilated Ladies / which deals with claims from people.

根据就近原则，可以看为which引导的定语从句修饰Mutilated Ladies。

people (who fed their money to a machine or to their dog).

who引导的定义从句用来修饰people。

这样句子就看清晰了是吧。

句子拆分的原则，首先是逗号，其次就是各种引导词。看到长句子不要怕，学会拆分就能理解表达含义了。

（3）插入语

Dogs, it seems, love to chew up money!

两个逗号之间的内容为插入的内容，去掉不影响句子成分完整性。

Dogs love to chew up money! 完整的句子。这就是插入语。
