出社会久了，会时常想念起母校。
在校时的美好时光，一去不复返。
但夺不走我们的美好回忆，在我们的心里会默默地留下一个专属位置。
校园，饭堂，宿舍，写作业，考试......每一个小片段构成了我们的校园时光。
一切一切，都很美好。
但是话说回来，“母校”用英语怎么说呢？
一、“母校”用英语怎么说呢？
在英语中，母校可以用alma mater来表示。Alma mater是一个拉丁词，原意是kindmother慈母）。
eg:
Jason's alma mater is Sun Yat-sen University.
杰森的母校是中山大学。
除了可以表示“母校”这一意思之外呢，alma mater还有“校歌”的意思。
eg:
Actually, the song you arelistening to right now is the alma mater of Sun Yat-sen University.
事实上，你正听到的这首歌曲是中山大学的校歌。
学校里也有很多可爱的校友，那可以用英文怎么来表达呢？Alumni，这是“男校友”，而alumna则是“女校友”。
二、母语 ≠ mother language
在日常口语中，我们不会用“mother language”来表达“母语”，这种说法更加不正式，我们一般用这两种表达方式：
native language：主要针对地方，当地(或出生地)的语言，还可以指（语言学）本族语或（计算机）本机语言。
mother tongue：
英文释义：Your mother tongue is the language that you learn when you are a baby.
中文释义：主要指人，本国语；本民族语；衍生其他语言的原始语言
“tongue” 主要指语言，方言或人的说话能力，所以“mother tongue”自然就是指原始语言，即母语。
三、母公司 ≠ mother company
从上面可知母校不是“mother school”，母语也不是“mother language”，那么母公司是“mother company”？
母公司是指总公司，这样的话用mother company是不太合适的，而应该用“parent company”或“parent firm”来表达。
英文释义：a company that owns more than half the shares of another company.
eg:
The parent company of this factory is in Shanghai.
这家工厂的母公司（总公司）在上海。
四、子公司 ≠ son company
有了“母公司”，当然也有子公司，但是可千万别把“子公司”翻译成“son company”。
它的正确表达应该是：subsidiary corporation（company）。
eg:
The subsidiary company has decided to amalgamate with the parent firm.
这家子公司已决定和母公司合并。
The parent company has
eight subsidiary companies.
这家公司有八个子公司。
