在英语学习的过程中有没有遇到过一种表达并不是其字面意思的情况？其实这种情况是非常普遍的，本期内容我们就来学习其中一个。
Sleep late从字面意思来理解似乎应该是“睡得晚”的意思，但它的真实意思其实是“起得晚”，可以理解为“睡到很晚才起”
- I usually sleep late on weekends.
我通常会在周末睡懒觉。
- I never sleep late, early bird catches the worms.
我从不睡懒觉，因为早起的鸟儿有虫吃。
- We should make good use of the time in the morning, so don't sleep late!
我们应该好好利用早上的时间，所以不要睡懒觉。
当然，“睡懒觉”除了sleep late，还可以用下面的表达方式：Get up late起床晚了
- I got up late this morning, so I missed the train.
我起床晚了，所以我错过了火车。
- My brother got up very late, and he said he couldn't fall asleep last night.
我哥哥起床很晚，他说他昨晚睡不着。
Sleep in睡懒觉
- Yesterday, I slept in, and I didn't go to the yoga class.
昨天我睡懒觉了，我也没去参加瑜伽课。
- I think sleeping in is a fantastic thing in the raining day.
我觉得在下雨天睡懒觉太美妙了。
Oversleep睡过头
- I wrote the report until the early hours, so I overslept this morning.
我写报告一直到后半夜，所以今天早上我睡过了头。
对话
A: Why are you late again?
你怎么又迟到了？
B: I'm so sorry. I just overslept.
不好意思，我睡过头了。
A: It's not a good excuse.
这可不是一个好的借口。
与“睡懒觉、起得晚、睡过头”对应的“熬夜”又是如何表达呢？
Stay up (late)熬夜
- I am a night person, so I usually stay up late and write stories about ghosts.
我是一个夜猫子，我通常会熬夜写作关于鬼魂的故事。
- The primitives had to stay up preventing the animals from attacking.
原始人必须保持清醒以防止动物的袭击。
Go to bed late上床睡觉很晚
- The boys went to bed very late, they had to finish their homework.
这些男孩子们上床睡觉很晚，因为他们得完成作业。
- Going to bed late may cause many health problems.
晚睡会导致很多健康问题
