噫吁嚱，危乎高哉！蜀道之难，难于上青天！
蚕丛及鱼凫，开国何茫然！
尔来四万八千岁，不与秦塞通人烟。
西当太白有鸟道，可以横绝峨眉巅。
地崩山摧壮士死，然后天梯石栈相钩连。
上有六龙回日之高标，下有冲波逆折之回川。
黄鹤之飞尚不得过，猿猱欲度愁攀援。
青泥何盘盘，百步九折萦岩峦。
扪参历井仰胁息，以手抚膺坐长叹。
问君西游何时还？畏途巉岩不可攀。
但见悲鸟号古木，雄飞雌从绕林间。
又闻子规啼夜月，愁空山。
蜀道之难,难于上青天，使人听此凋朱颜！
连峰去天不盈尺，枯松倒挂倚绝壁。
飞湍瀑流争喧豗，砯崖转石万壑雷。
其险也如此，嗟尔远道之人胡为乎来哉！
剑阁峥嵘而崔嵬，一夫当关，万夫莫开。
所守或匪亲，化为狼与豺。
朝避猛虎，夕避长蛇；磨牙吮血，杀人如麻。
锦城虽云乐，不如早还家。
蜀道之难,难于上青天，侧身西望长咨嗟！

Roads Hard Connecting Shu with the Outside

Alas, perilous and lofty! Shu Roads is so hard,
As hard as ascending to the blue sky!
Cancong and Youfu with their kingdoms cannot be traced!
For forty-eight thousand years they touched no Qin’s why.
Only in the west there is the bird passageway,
And the birds down it can reach to the summit of Mount E’mei.
In legend there were five heroes dead,
Then the ladders and plank roads on cliffs were linked to trade.
Up to the top there is the sun-god’s carriage driven by six dragons,
At the bottom the rivers flowing down in raging torrents.
Yellow cranes are preoccupied hard to climb to navigate;
Monkeys are so swift but worry to surmount.
The Muddy Ridge twists and turns so frequent,
With one hundred steps meeting ninety turns around the summit.
Constellation Shen and Jing foretell the augury but not under the auspices,
Hence hands touching the heart and sitting with sighs.
I want to ask you when you’ll be back.
The utterance is only in fear of crags I crack.
But the sorrowful birds chirp towards the old trees,
The female in company with the male flying in woods.
The miserable cry is the cuckoo at night,
For the melancholy of the deserted mountains at sight.
Shu Roads is so hard, as hard as ascending to Heaven!
Any one has heard and turns his face saddened then.
The peaks connected to each other are only one Chi to the sky,
With the dead pine trees hanging upside down along the precipices so high.
Swift currents and dashing waterfall are making noises,
Thundering, splashing and cracking.
So is the danger right there,
For what, you, a newcomer, dare to come here!
Pass Jiange is precipitous and lofty;
Ten thousand are unable to get through if one guards it.
If the soldiers appointed are not the close confidants,
They then are degenerates like the wolves and jackals.
When you walk at dawn to watch the tiger and at dusk the snake,
The spooky grinding teeth and sucking blood will make your heart break.
The capital Chengdu is rich and populous as a brocade city,
Nevertheless, to go home early is witty.
Shu Roads is so hard, as hard as ascending to the blue sky!
But only to give a slight turn and look at it with a sigh.
