吾日三省吾身，省得一事，惊出一身冷汗：昨日翻看菜单，硕大一个“粥”字下方的翻译竟然不是porridge——作为认证吃货，不能地道地向老外介绍中国美食乃一大折磨，遂制此推文，与众吃货探讨常见食材之翻译。

1.Congee ['kɑndʒi]/ rice porridge 粥/稀饭
呼应前文，当时菜单上写的译名儿是Congee，那Congee和Porridge到底有啥不同呢？
Porridge is a dish made by boiling oatsor sometimes anothercerealin water, milk, or both. It is usually served in a bowl or dish.Congeeis a type ofrice porridgethat is eaten in many Asian countries.
所以Porridge是通过在水和牛奶中煮沸燕麦或其他谷物而形成的糊状物，而Congee是一种在亚洲国家广泛流行的用米做原料的粥。简而言之，porridge是一个相对宽泛的概念，而congee，咱中国稀饭，粥，是属于porridge的一种，专指米做的porridge。

2.Plain rice 白饭/净米饭
≠ white rice
plain作形容词有朴实无华的意思，plain rice——朴实无华的米饭，就是啥都没加，白白净净的一碗饭。
Also pay attention to the pronunciation of plain, it's not "plan", but "ein"-/plein/.
E.g. I want two bowls of plain rice, please.
我想要两碗米饭，谢谢。
3.Preserved egg 皮蛋

皮蛋瘦肉粥~相信不少小伙伴都尝过，下次给老外介绍粥里边儿那个黑亮黑亮的皮蛋，就不会再一脸懵逼啦~
E.g.Preserved egg is a common culinary material in Chinese cuisines.
皮蛋是中国菜里面一种常见的烹饪材料。
4.Puff [pʌf] 酥皮点心
Just think about the pronunciation of the snacks——泡芙。聪明的小伙伴都猜到了，现在大街小巷随处可见的泡芙，就是Puff的汉化版啦。
E.g. The puff in China is traditionally a kind of dim-sum with a crispy coverage outside and sweet stuff inside.
中国传统的酥皮点心一般外表酥脆，馅料香甜。
5.Edible bird's nests 燕窝
edible [ˈɛdəbl]:可食用的
这个edible可谓是点睛之笔，如果你只说bird's nest，很可能把老外吓得出现以下情形：第一、什么？树上那一坨直接煮了？第二、excuse me, 北京的鸟巢你也能吃？Ok, so just do not omit edible.
E.g. Edible bird's nest was once served only to the rich people.
燕窝曾经一度只供应给有钱人。
