Dutch Company Makes Tiny One-Person Offices

A Dutch company has created one-person spaces called Tiny Offices. Found in holiday parks in the Netherlands, they are 6 square meters in size and have enough room for just one person to work.

Built from aluminum and wood, the offices were designed by Dutch Invertuals of Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Each office has a desk, a small bed, and a large window.

The offices were designed as part of Dutch Design Week in 2018 for Droomparken, a company that runs holiday parks across the Netherlands. Just four Tiny Offices can now be found at the parks, but more are expected in the future.

The idea was to create a space that would be better to work in than a normal office, where people could "dream, perform and create."

Speaking to Dezeen, Chris Collaris and Wendy Plomp of Dutch Invertuals said that the Tiny Offices have recently received more attention because of the coronavirus pandemic. They said the Tiny Offices "are a much safer place than the traditional office".

According to Eurostat, 14.1% of workers in the Netherlands usually worked from home in 2019. That compared to 7% in France, 5.2% in Germany, 4.7% in the UK and just 2.1% in Turkey.

The Dutch government says that everyone in the Netherlands should still be working from home if possible.
