我们在小学的时候就学过，go to school 是去上学。
那如果加了the，还是去上学吗？有没有“Go to the school”这种表达呢？
实际上，go to school 和go to the school 都是正确的表达，但它们的意思完全不一样！

母校的英文表达
上文中提到了母校，那大家知道母校的英文表达吗？
在日常交流中，地道英语表达“母校”为“alma mater”，复数是 almae matres（很少使用）。
Alma mater是个拉丁词，原指“kind mother”（慈母） ，现常用来形容“母校”或“高校的校歌”。
除此以外，old school也可以表示母校。
old school是个俚语，在英国口语中有母校的意思。不过这个短语还有“某人传统的、守旧的”意思，实际情况中要结合语境分析其含义。

London University is my Alma Mater.
伦敦大学是我的母校。
I am fond feelings for my old school.
我对自己的母校有很深厚的感情。

校友的英文表达
在英文中常用“school mate” or “school fellow”来指代“校友”。
除此之外，“校友”最常用的表达是alumni [əˈlʌmnaɪ]以及alumnae [əˈlʌmniː]。前者是alumnus（男校友）的复数形式，后者是alumna（女校友）的复数形式。
