More than 20 new chameleon hatchlings made their entrance into the world at theTaronga Zooin Sydney, Australia, this week and the little cuties are already making a big splash despite their small size.
At just about five centimeters in length, they are the first chameleons to be born at the zoo in over five years.

The tiny tykes are currently kept behind the scenes in a temperature-controlled habitat.

However, contrary to the stereotype, chameleons don't change their color based on their surroundings.

Reptile supervisor Michael McFadden explains, "You'll see shades of green, yellow, aqua, and even very dark brown or black depending on their temperature, mood and reproductive behavior."

Once they've fully reached maturity (about two to three months), only four will remain at Taronga, while the rest are dispersed throughout other Australian zoos and wildlife parks.

The tree-dwellers have zygodactyl feet - meaning they can easily grasp at bark and branches...or human hands.
