Grug loved to look at books.
瓜哥特别爱看书。
Sometimes he borrowed books from the local library.
有时候瓜哥会从当地的图书馆借书回家看。
When Grug looked at the pictures in a book he could understand the story...
当他看到书本里的插图，他就会明白书里讲的是什么故事。
...but he could not read the words.
但是！他只看得懂图片，不认识书本里的文字。
"How can I learn to read?"wondered Grug.
“怎么才能认识这些字呢？”瓜哥双手托着下巴，苦恼的想着。
Then he had an idea!
不久，他就想到了一个办法。
First he built his own blackboard.
首先呢，瓜哥自己动手制作了一块黑板。
Then each day Grug walked to the nearby school...
每天，瓜哥都会跑去附近的学校,
and peered through the window.
偷偷躲在教室外面，透过窗户跟着老师学习。
He copied the words from the school blackboard
瓜哥把老师黑板上的字都抄在小纸条上，
and carefully listened to the children saying the words.
然后仔细听着教室里的孩子们怎么读这些字。
Grug carried the words home.
瓜哥把这些小纸条带回了家。
He copied them over and over on his blackboard.
他把这些字在自己的黑板上，写了一遍又一遍，
When he had practiced many wards.
当他练习了很多很多遍之后，
Grug wrote a simple sentence...
瓜哥终于写出了一句简单的句子: Grug is small。
Now Grug tried reading the words in a book.
现在瓜哥正在尝试认识书本里的字，
Some of the words were too hard so he practiced
有一些书里的字实在是太难了，所以瓜哥就不停的练习，
until he had learnt them.
直到把这些难的字都学会了。
Now Grug could read!
瓜哥通过努力，终于学会了识字，
But he still loved to looked at the pictures.
但是瓜哥还是更喜欢看书的图片。
That night Grug went to bed and read this favourite book.
晚上，瓜哥躺在被窝里，心满意足的读着他最喜爱的书~
