然而，共享单车作为以移动互联网为基础的共享经济的代表，它的发展也正面临着一些艰巨的挑战。
当地时间9月5日，中国共享单车公司摩拜宣布，因车辆遭人为破坏和盗窃严重，决定终止在英国曼彻斯特的运营并退还用户押金。至此，曼彻斯特成为全世界200多个运营摩拜单车的城市中，被这家共享单车企业所抛弃的第一个城市。
Theft and vandalism has forced China's bike-sharing brand Mobike to suspend its services in Manchester, the UK.
According to a blog published on Mobike UK website on Wednesday, the decision came mainly because the company has suffered an increasing number of bike losses during the summer in the city.
自摩拜去年7月进驻曼城以来，单车持续遭到破坏和盗窃。今年夏季，在曼城的报损率更是每个月都达到10%。作为一家私营公司，摩拜在曼城的运营状况，致使其已无法维持基本的收支平衡。

A blog titled "Goodbyes are never easy" elaborated on the company's decision, saying it came from a careful evaluation of their revenues, as the company never uses taxpayers' money to balance their books.

曼彻斯特拥有曼联和曼城这两支世界闻名的足球队，是最为中国人所熟知的英国城市之一。它作为摩拜出海的首个亚洲之外的城市，在入驻最初，受到了热潮涌动的关注。主流媒体竞相报道，英国人民在网络上热议。一年多来，人口不到55万的曼城，累计使用摩拜单车25万次，行程达到近29万公里。
The orange-colored bikes entered the Manchester's market in the middle of 2017 with around 2,000 dockless bikes deployed on streets. Bike-sharing immediately gained traction from local commuters with 250,000 trips taken by locals and over 180,000 miles cycled, according to the blog.
而这些，终究没有改变它提前谢幕曼城的结局。
反社会行为频发，让它成为摩拜单车第一个来也第一个走的城市。
“摩拜单车来曼城仿佛就是昨天的事情”，《曼彻斯特晚报》以这样的感叹开头报道了这件事。
“每个月在曼城，都有约10%或者200辆左右共享单车遭受到人为破坏、盗窃，这在摩拜所运营的全世界200多个城市中是最糟糕的”。
去年夏天，在投放摩拜单车仅仅十天左右，曼彻斯特警方就收到17起摩拜单车失窃的报案。一个月后，接连出现了单车被蓄意损害的情况。这些造价不菲的单车被砸、被扔进沟渠、车锁被毁，甚至被烧……当时就已有人发出质问——曼城是否真的已做好迎接摩拜单车的准备了？
But as bike-sharing offers more convenience to commuters and helps reduce environmental pollution, the bikes have suffered from anti-social behavior. Last year, several young men were filmed kicking, destroying and throwing stones at a parked Mobike bicycle in Manchester while some of the orange bikes were even found to be stuck atop traffic lights.

According to a BBC report, the Greater Manchester police received around 17 reports in the first 10 days of Mobike's launch in the city, which were related to theft and vandalism.

However, not everyone is blaming the city's vandalism and thefts for Mobike's pull-out. Andy Burnham, mayor of Greater Manchester, and Chris Boardman, Former Olympic champion and Greater Manchester cycling commissioner, have blamed Mobike itself for its retreat, Manchester Evening News reported.
现任大曼彻斯特区自行车和步行委员会委员的前奥运冠军、英国自行车传奇人物克里斯·博德曼说“反社会行为不是只有曼城才有，英国其他城市也有，而别的共享单车公司却能找到办法解决。”

Mobike's departure has caused a backlash on social media, especially among the Mancunians.
不过好在摩拜在伦敦、纽卡斯尔、牛津和剑桥的运营不受影响，在欧洲的其他城市包括巴黎、柏林、马德里和米兰的业务也照常运转。
In a relief, Mobike's services in London, Newcastle, Oxford and Cambridge remain unaffected, as well as other cities in Europe including Paris, Berlin, Madrid and Milan.

作为一种新型环保共享经济，共享单车曾经是中国的新名片，代表着一种崭新的、可持续的、时尚的生活方式。而如今，共享单车的“初心”却几度遭质问。
人行道路上、公园里、学校操场里、高架桥下，各色各样的单车“尸横遍野”的景象屡见不鲜。原本一心为城市提供绿色出行方式的“单车们”，现如今反倒因影响市容、阻碍交通、浪费资源而为千夫所指——造成如此局面的究竟是共享单车，还是你我每一个人？

The sharing economy is bringing more convenience to the world, from shared bikes to shared power banks, umbrellas and even basketball courts, however, some side effects have also emerged.
A large-scale launch has aggravated the contradictions between the demand and limited public space for transport. Lots of shared bikes can be found occupying parts of sidewalks and blocking the doorways of some stores.
摩拜的官网上写道，“摩拜的使命，是用人人可负担得起的价格提供共享自行车服务，使人们更便利地完成城市内的短途旅行，同时帮助缓解交通拥堵，减少环境污染，提升城市生活品质。”
这大概也是每一辆共享单车的初心。
这样光明的愿景，试问，你我的社会责任感，配不配得上这份美好？
On its official website, Mobike says its mission is to provide "an affordable means of shared transportation for convenient short urban trips, while reducing congestion, and our city's carbon footprint," adding that with "these combined - Mobike improves the quality of city life."
However, in order to make shared-bikes more compatible with the city and for its mission to be fulfilled, a more socially responsible manner needs to come from all citizens interested in using the service.
