NeilWhat do you mean? You did have a nice time, didn’t you?
FeifeiYes and no.
NeilYes, and no? Well, which one was it? Yes or no?
FeifeiI said ‘yes and no’. 在日常交流中，当我们遇到难以作出明确回答的问题时，就可以用 “yes and no” 来表示 “不好说，也是也不是，说不准”。所以，当 Neil 问我的假期怎么样的时候，我就用了 “yes and no” 来表示 “假期也好也不好”。There were some ‘issues’ with it. For one, I couldn’t get any work done!
NeilWait – you didn’t enjoy it because you couldn’t work? You do know that you’re supposed to relax when you’re on holiday?
FeifeiYes and no. There’s always time to do some work! Do you think there’s something wrong with that?
NeilYes and no. We can talk more about that right after these examples.
ExamplesWhen I asked her if she was still angry with me, she just said ‘yes and no’!
Yes and no! What kind of answer is that? Just tell me if you want to go out tomorrow.
The cricket coach just said ‘yes and no’ when she was asked if she was happy with the current team.
