Authorities in Beijing have been replacing certain English words on the capital’s subway with romanised Chinese ahead of the Winter Olympics in February.
在2月份冬季奥运会到来之际，北京当局正将首都地铁上的某些英语单词替换为汉语拼音。
The English word “station” was replaced with “Zhan,” which is the pinyin version of the Chinese character.

In some places, station names such as Olympic Park and Terminal 2 of the Beijing airport were changed to “Aolinpike Gongyuan” and “2 Hao Hangzhanlou”.
在某些地方，站名譬如“奥林匹克公园”和“北京机场2号航站楼”等名称改为"Aolinpike Gongyuan"和“2 Hao Hangzhanlou”。
By changing "station" to "zhan", the subway authorities have triggered discussions online, with some netizens saying it will confuse non-Chinese subway users. Some have even said a simple translation is enough to make non-Chinese metro users identify the stations, and the addition of zhan will only create confusion.
