Councils are installing pavement-level traffic-lights to prevent zombie pedestrians whose eyes are glued to their phones from walking into traffic.
The Dutch town of Bodegraven has installed the lights at crossings near schools to tell those too engrossed in Facebook to keep track of their surroundings whether or not it’s safe to walk on.
The strips of LEDs at the pavement edge are connected to existing crossing lights and change colour at the same time. It is the first European trial of the technology at road crossings.
