汉语中说的“手指”，说成英语是finger。
例如：
I’ve hurt my finger.
我伤了手指。
She was pointing her fingers at me.
她用手指指着我。
No one’s fingers are equally long.
没有一个人的手指是一样长。
The club is gripped mainly by the last three fingers of the left hand.
球杆主要靠左手的最后三个指头握紧。
但每个手指还有自己的表达方法：
拇指：thumb；
食指：index finger / forefinger / first finger；
中指：second finger / middle finger / long finger；
无名指：third finger / ring finger；
小指：fourth finger / little finger。
由于人们习惯于将戒指戴在左手上，所以有的人还作了以下细分：右手的无名指叫 third finger, 左手的无名指叫 ring finger。
严格说来，拇指叫thumb，它不是finger。
例如：
He held it between his finger and thumb.
他用拇指和食指捏着它。
所以在谈及手指数目时，人们常说：
There are four fingers and one thumb on each hand.
但也有人简单地说：
There are five fingers on each hand.
finger与介词的有用搭配
表示用手指，通常搭配介词with。
例如：
She told her son not to eat with his fingers.
她告诉她的儿子不要用手抓饭菜吃。
He tore open the envelope with clumsy fingers.
他用拙笨的手指撕开信封。
表示手指上戴着戒指，通常搭配介词on。
例如：
Why do you wear that ring on your first finger?
你怎么把那戒指戴在食指上?
He took a ring out of his pocket and put it on her finger.
他从口袋里掏出一枚戒指戴在她的手指上。
In Britain, wedding-rings are worn on the third finger of the left hand.
在英国，结婚戒指戴在左手无名指上。
“手指”与“脚趾”
“手指”与“脚趾”不同，后者的英文是toe，注意不是foot finger。
例如：
Touch your toes without bending your knees!
试着不屈膝去够你的脚趾!
I’m terribly sorry I stepped on your toes.
我踩到你的脚趾，真是抱歉!
I draw on your fingers and toes, and you have to work out which one I’m touching.
我在你的手指和脚趾上面画，你必须指出我触及的是哪一个。
