英文的用法微妙，有时多一个或少一个the，意思就大相径庭了。 大家知道“out of question”是没问题，那么“ out of the question”是有问题还是没有问题呢？其实它跟“问题”没有关系，它表示的是“不可能的”或者“根本谈不上”、“免谈”。

因为可能会花费比较多的钱，我们没有这个预算，An expensive holiday is out of the question this year.
If you say that something is out of the question, you are emphasizing that it is completely impossible or unacceptable.
如果你说什么事情是out of the question，你在强调它是完全不可能的或者不能被接受的。
In this family, dating is out of the question until you're 18.

Driving is out of the question as long as the engine is busted.

在美国，每个城市都会有the homeless，其实就是我们说的流浪汉，无家可归的人。他们露宿在街边，桥洞下面，或者在哪支个帐篷生活。
For the homeless, private medical care is simply out of the question.

再比如，你已经花费了很多时间、精力甚至金钱在做一件事情上，可是取得的效果并不好。于是你的朋友劝你放弃掉，重新再来，你会怎么回答他呢？

我已经在这个项目上投入了太多的时间和金钱，所以重头再来是不可能的了。
最后一个例子，你想借朋友家的大客厅举办一个party，但是对方不同意，ta可能会说：
I'm sorry, but having a party here is absolutely out of the question.
不好意思，但是在这办party是绝对不行的。
out of the question之所以指的是没有必要讨论，不可能的，是因为这里的question并不能理解为普通的名词“问题" ，而变成了一个抽象名词，指代所讨论的主题。试想一下，如果一件事没有什么可能性了，那也就不必讨论了！
