“to nip something in the bud”(把某事扼杀在萌芽状态)指在某事酿成大祸或铸成大错前及早地制止。

The manager told the team to identify problems early and nip them in the bud.

经理告诫团队人员要尽早发现问题并及时处理。

02 Turn over a new leaf

重新开始;洗心革面

to turn over a new leaf形容一个人改过自新,成为一个更好的人,多指改掉坏的习惯。

He gave up eating junk food and turned over a new leaf.

他改过自新,不再吃垃圾食品。

She's turned over a new leaf. She exercises every day now.

她开启了新的生活,现在每天都健身。

03 An olive branch

橄榄枝(象征和平)

hold out or offer an olive branch向某人伸出橄榄枝,意思是愿意和某人和解。

It was only after one of the rivals held out an olive branch that both groups decided to stop fighting.

04 Sow the seeds

播种

To sow the seeds指为以后的事埋下或好或坏的伏笔。

She is sowing the seeds of her own downfall.

05 Beat around the bush

说话绕圈子

To beat around the bush意思是说话兜圈子,避重就轻,也可以说to beat about the bush,我们用这个词来形容一个人说话啰嗦冗长。
