望海潮·东南形胜
【宋】柳永东南形胜，三吴都会，钱塘自古繁华。
烟柳画桥，风帘翠幕，参差十万人家。
云树绕堤沙。
怒涛卷霜雪，天堑无涯。
市列珠玑，户盈罗绮，竞豪奢。
重湖叠巘清嘉。
有三秋桂子，十里荷花。
羌管弄晴，菱歌泛夜，嬉嬉钓叟莲娃。
千骑拥高牙。
乘醉听箫鼓，吟赏烟霞。
异日图将好景，归去凤池夸。

柳永（约984年—约1053年），原名三变，字景庄；后改名柳永，字耆卿，崇安（今福建武夷山）人，北宋词人，婉约派代表人物。LIU Yong (c.984-c.1053), formerly named Liu Sanbian, styled Sunlight Village; later renamed Liu Young, styled Senior Official, a native of Chong’an (present-day Wuyi Mountain, Fujian Province). He was a lyricist of Northern Song dynasty and a representative of the Graceful and Restrained School. (陈允鹏译)

—To the Tune of Looking at the Tide

Southeast’s a vantage ground,
The capital of Woo,
’Tis a place that’s thrived since long ago.
Misty trees, carved bridges,
Wind furled drapes, green curtains,
A hundred thousand households high and low.
On the dike giant willows make a row.
In the boundless river
The waves throw up foams like white snow.
In the shops all pearls line,
In the stalls all silks shine,
Vying to show what’s fine.
Lake to lake, hill to hill, a great show.
Cassias burst in autumn;
Ten miles lotuses blow.
Qiang flutes delight the day,
Water caltrops sue the night,
Fishers, lotus pickers, glad they go.
One thousand guards greet Highteeth, lo.
Flutes and drums are played while they’re drunk.
Here’s verse, there’s mist, yoho.
I’ll paint a painting of all the views
When back, I’ll stir my peers: You know?
