前两天有同学问了吉米老师一个问题，我们从小就学的是 go to school，为什么很多时候老外说都说 go to the school 呢？

吉米老师差点被考到了，就多了一个 the，而且都是去学校，大家可不能被迷惑了，go to school 和 go to the school 区别大着呢！

go to the school 为什么是对的？

go to school 去上学

go to the school 去学校

估计大家看到这里很疑惑，“去上学”和“去学校”差不多嘛。吉米老师教大家一招，以后就能简单区分：加了 the，就是特指某一个地方，go to the school 是到特指的那个学校去，而 go to school 不强调是去哪个学校，而强调去学校是为了“去上学”。

比方说吉米老师早上跟家人说“我要去学校上班啦”，那这个“学校”就特指吉米老师上班的学校，所以用 go to the school。咱们再换个角度想，go to school 是“去上学”，那“去学校”一定是“上学”吗？吉米老师是去学校上班的，家长是去学校接送孩子的，如果用了 go to school，就变成是“去上学”的了。

1. I have to go to the school to pick up my daughter.

我要去学校接我女儿。

2. I go to school by bus every day.

我每天坐公交车上学。

by day 还是 by the day?

by day 在白天

by the day 按日计算

这两个表达很好区分，day 除了表示“一天”之外，还可以表示“白天”，它的反义词就是 night “夜晚”。by day 表示“在白天”，by night 就表示“在夜晚”。

而 by the day 的意思是“按日计算”，比方说“工资日结”就可以说 I get paid by the day。和它相对应的是 by the hour “计时”，by the month “按月计算”还有 by the year “按年计算”。

1. He sleeps by day and works by night.

他白天睡觉，晚上工作。

2. I get paid by the day and my wife gets paid by the month.

我领的是日薪，我妻子领的是月薪。

例外：这些表达一定要加 the

go to the bathroom

go to the restroom

go to the loo /luː/

上厕所

前面讲到多了个 the 意思完全不一样，这种情况很常见，但凡事都有例外，和“上厕所”有关的表达，比方说 go to the toilet、go to the bathroom 等表达必须加 the。如果没有 the，变成 go to toilet，那就是错的。

If you need to go to the bathroom, raise your hand and tell your teacher.

如果要上厕所，就要举手告诉老师。
