在今天的内容分享开始之前，，我们先来做一道专四真题：
Which of the following statements is INCORRECT?
A. Five miles seem like a long walk to me.
B. Ten dollars was stolen from the cash register.
C. Either my sister or my brother is coming.
D. Only one out of six were present at the meeting.
答案：A

除了选项C，考察either... or... 结构中谓语动词根据就近原则使用is，其他选项都是考察以表示数量概念的名词词组作主语的主谓一致问题。
以表示【确定】数量的名词词组作主语① 如果这个数量概念被看作整体，动词用单数；如果被看作该数量的一个个的个体，动词用复数。如:
Three miles was too long a distance for me to run.
Ten dollars was stolen from the cash register.
Five hours is needed to complete the outline.
以上的主语都被看作是整体，所以动词都用单数。
但，There were six silver dollars in each of the stockings. 主语被看作该确定数量的一个个的个体，每一个麻袋里面都有六块银币。
Tips：凡是主语是关于 钱数、里程、时间的名词词组，同学们都要认真考虑到底是强调整体还是个体哦！
② 如果作主语的名词是由“分数或百分数 of-词组”构成，其动词单复数形式由of-词组中名词类别决定。如：
Over sixty per cent of the city was destroyed in the war.
Two-thirds of the doctors are women.
但是，如果主语由“one in / one out of 复数名词”构成，在正式语体中，动词用单数；在非正式语体中，复数可以按照就近原则用复数。如：
One in ten students has failed the exam.(正式语体）
Only one out of six were present at the meeting.（非正式语体，开头的专四真题选项D）
③ 两数相减或相除，动词用单数；两数相加或相乘，动词用单复数皆可。如：
Forty minus fifteen leaves twenty-five.(减）
Forty divided by eight is five.（除）
Seven plus / and five make/ makes twelve.（加）
Five times eight is / are forty.（乘）
Tips：为了方便记忆，我们可以记：在数学运算中，动词都能用单数形式。
① 如果主语是all of...，some of...，none of...， half of...，most of...，lots of...，heaps of..., loads of..., scads of..., plenty of..., 动词的单复数形式都依据of-词组中名词的类别决定。如：
Some of the money has been stolen.
Some of the books were lost.
Lots of food is going to waste.
Plenty of men are already here.
② 如果主语是由 a portion of，a series of，a pile of，a panel of 名词，动词通常用单数。如：
A series of accidents has been reported.
③ 如果主语是由 限定词 kind/ type/ sort of 名词构成的，动词的单复数形式由限定词来决定。如
There is a kind of rose，which fills the air with fragrance when May comes.
This type of car is old-fashioned.
There are sveral sorts of cheese for sale in the shop.
Those kinds of insects are harmful.
注意：这种结构中用可数名词和不可数名词都是可以的，但当限定词是复数含义时，可数名词也用复数形式，而不会用“those kinds of rose”，如果硬要用复数名词，则要说“Roses of these kind are ..."，另外在非正式语体中，those kind of 复数名词的主语结构也是存在的，随后的动词用复数形式。但这个结构受到争议。
④ 如果主语是由 many a 名词或 more than one 名词构成，虽然意义上是复数，但动词遵循“语法一致”原则用单数。如：
Many a man has done his duty.
More than one game was lost.
③ 如果主语由 an average of/ a majority of 复数名词构成，明确表示多数个体的概念，动词用复数；不表示多数个体概念，动词用单数。如：
An average of 25 persons apply each month.
An average of 25 applicants a month is not unusual.
A majority of the town;s younger men are moving to the city.
A majority of three votes to one was recorded.
