一般般怎么说(一般般只会说just)(2)

Feifei大家好,欢迎来到 BBC 英语教学的《地道英语》节目,我是冯菲菲,还有我的搭档 Neil。

NeilHello.

FeifeiHey Neil, how was your night out at that new restaurant?

Neil

Oh, it was OK.

FeifeiJust 'OK'?

NeilThe food was average. The service was standard.

Feifei

Neil there is no pleasing you!

Neil

Keep you voice down Feifei. It was nothing to shout about.

Feifei

“It was nothing to shout about 没什么值得喊的?”Would you normally shout about a good restaurant?

NeilOf course not. But when something is 'nothing to shout about', it means it's nothing special. It's average or unremarkable. So you wouldn't make an effort to tell everyone about it.

Feifei

原来 Neil 说的“nothing to shout about”的意思是指事情“不值得一提,没什么特别的,不算太好,一般般”。So basically, your experience was disappointing?

Neil

Not exactly. It was neither good or bad, just average. These examples might make the phrase easier to understand.

ExamplesThis year's bonus is nothing to shout about but I guess it's better than last year's.

My job's nothing to shout about but at least it pays the bills.

Her clothes are nothing to shout about – brown, cotton, cheap-looking, not very fashionable!

Feifei

这里是 BBC 英语教学的《地道英语》节目,我们正在教给大家一个口语中出现频率非常高的地道说法“nothing to shout about”,它可以被用来表示事物没有什么特别之处,一般般。So Neil, the restaurant was nothing special but was there anything you couldshout about?

Neil

Oh yes. The prices! It was so cheap – that's probably why the food wasn't great. And on Mondays they do a special 'two for the price of one' meal. That's something to shout about.

Feifei是的,通常只有让我们高兴、激动的事情,我们才会“shout about it”。

Neil

Actually Feifei, I was wondering if you'd like to have dinner with me next Monday?

Feifei

At the restaurant that’s nothing to shout about?

Neil

Yes.

FeifeiOK then and if the food isn't good, I'll have someone to shout at.

Neil

Who's that?

Feifei

You!

Neil

Bye.

FeifeiBye.
