Air这个词是英语中最热的词汇之一，它出现在新概念英语第一册第8课，是以合成词的形式出现的: air hostess 空中小姐。
1. air 飞机 [U] travel in an aircraft乘坐飞机；航空
- I don't travel much by air. 我不常坐飞机。

2.air 空气 [不可数名词U] the mixture of gases which surrounds the Earth and which we breathe

3. the air空中，天空 [只用单数S]the space above the ground, especially high above the ground

⑴ airs and graces装腔作势，摆架子；矫揉造作
false ways of behaving that are intended to make other people feel that you are important and belong to a high social class
①He was always putting on airs and graces. 他总是装腔作势，故作姿态。
②She's got no reason to give herself airs and graces. 她没有理由摆架子。
③We're poor and we never put on airs. 我们贫穷但从不装腔作势。
⑵ be walking/floating on air欢天喜地；得意洋洋 to be very happy and excited because something very pleasant has happened to you

(5) full of hot air, hot air 作为一个习惯用语，它的意思就是废话连篇，或吹牛。
Don't worry about what some US high political officials say. They just likes to scare people. It makes them feel important, but they are just full of hot air. 别把美国政客的话放在心上。他们就是喜欢吓唬人，这样会让他们觉得自己很重要，其实他是空话连篇。
(6) thin air。我们要学的第一个习惯用语是由thin air发展而来的。如，pull something out of thin air按照字面意思就是从稀薄的空气里抽取什么东西。要从稀薄的空气里抽取东西显然是困难异常。

(10) To walk on air形容一个人非常高兴，走起路来轻飘飘。

(13) air one's dirty linen in public曝光某人的丑事
提示：linen桌布、床单、被罩、枕套等家庭日用品) 这个习惯用语中的“in public”很好理解，就是“公开”或“当众”。“dirty linen”了，“linen”是“亚麻布”，那“dirty linen”就是“脏兮兮的桌布床单被罩枕套等”，就是用“dirty linen”来代表一个人的“丑事”。所以 air one's dirty linen in public就是“曝光某人的丑事”。
①Mother has asked her repeatedly not to air the family's dirty linen in public. 妈妈再三叮嘱她家丑不可外扬。

to become dry and/or fresh, or to cause to become dry and/or fresh （使）晾干，（使）风干；（使）烘干；（使）通风
My mother always airs the sheets before she makes the beds. 我妈妈在铺床之前总是先把床单烘干。
Leave the windows open to let the room air a bit. 开着窗户，让房间通通风。
