I. Mental Math Problems 口算题
Mom: It's time to do your math homework.
妈妈：该做数学作业了。
美式英语用math，英式英语用maths。
Let me read your homework instructions.
我看看你的作业要求。
First you can do some mental math problems.
你可以先做一些口算题。

Child: Finished.
宝宝：做完了。
Mom: Let me check.
妈妈：我来检查一下。
Hmmm, the answer is wrong in the second column, third row.

When you finish all the problems

II. Word Problems 应用题
Mom: Now we do the word problems.

If I have four apples

and you have 6 apples,

how many apples do we have in total?

We need to add them together.
我们要把它们加起来。
Now tell me what the number formula is?

Child: Is it 4 plus 6?

Mom: Very good, and what is the answer?

Child: Ten.
宝宝：10。
Mom: Great!

III. Column Addition and Subtraction 加减法竖式

Mom: Now, you have to practice addition using the column method.
妈妈：现在你该练习加法竖式了。
How do we do 46 27?
46 27怎么做？
Child: We put 46 on top of 27 like a column.
宝宝：我们把46放在27上面，一列一列的。
Mom: Yes, but make sure that the ones are on top of the ones,
妈妈：是的，但是一定要个位在个位上，
and the tens are on top of the tens.
十位在十位上。
同理，百位叫handreds，千位叫thousands。
Child: Okay.
宝宝：好的。
Then we add the ones together.
然后我们把个位加起来。
6 plus 7 equals 13.
6加7等于13。
一定要用第三人称单数形式equals。
Oh, wait.

What do I do if the ones add up to more than a one-digit number?

Mom: You have to put the ones under the ones column.

The ones of 13 is 3,
13的个位是3，
so we write down 3 under the line under the 6 and 7,

Then you carry the 1, which is the tens from 13, over to the tens column

and put it above the tens like this:

Now we add the tens together:

4 plus 2 and add the number carried over as well

We write 7 below the tens column.

So the answer is 73.

It's a subtraction problem.
是一道减法题。
46-27
Mom: I'll show you how to do it.
妈妈：我给你讲讲怎么做。
Since the 6 is too small to subtract 7,
因为6太小了，不够减7，
you have to borrow 1 from the 4.
你得从4那儿借1。
Place a little 1 to the left of the top ones number.
在个位最上面的数字左边写一个小1。
咱们国家教学中是使用退位点，可以将little 1改为little dot。
So, you have 16 - 7, which equals 9.
所以就是16 - 7，等于9。
Put 9 in the ones place under the line.
把9写在个位的位置上，写在线下面。
Since you borrowed that 1 from the 4,
因为你从4里借了1，
it is now a 3,
它就变成3了，
so cross out the 4 and write 3 above it.
把4划掉，在上面写一个3。
咱们国家教学中没有这步，可省略。
Subtract the 2 from the 3
从3里面减去2，
and put 1 in the tens place under the line.
然后把1写在十位的位置上，写在线下面。
Our answer is 19!
答案是19。
Child: Got it, thank you, Mommy!
宝宝：明白了，谢谢妈妈！
