A recent case concerns Jane Butlin whose fiancé, John, runs a successful furniture business. John had a very good day and put his wallet containing $3,000 into the microwave oven for safekeeping. Then he and Jane went horse-riding.

最近的一个案例与简.巴特林有关，她的未婚夫约翰拥有一家生意兴隆家具店。有一天约翰的生意很好，他把一只装有3,000 英镑的钱包放进微波炉内保存。然后，他和简一起去骑马。

（1）除了case外，与其他能表示“事例”单词的区别

case: 多指需要加以认真研究的实例，如病例，案例等。

example: 指能代表同类事物性质或一般规律的典型例子。

instance: 多指用于说明、支持或反证一般事实或理论的事例。

sample: 通常指样品。

illustration: 指用来说明、解释某种理论或看法而引用的例证。（大学英语4、6级作文必考词，考研英语2必考词）

specimen: 可与sample换用，但常指人或物中选出的有代表性部分，或指供科研、化验或检验用的标本。

accident: 强调偶然或意外发生的不幸事情。

incident: 既可指小事件或附带事件，又可指政治上具有影响的事件或事变。

event: 可指任何大小事件，但尤指历史上的重大事件。

occurrence: 和happening这两个词多指日常生活中发生的一般事件，有时也指偶然发生的事。
