这是一本给孩子英语启蒙非常经典的绘本。
虽然是一个毛毛虫变成蝴蝶的简单故事，但融会了“数量”、“星期”、“食物”的词汇学习，还有生命科学的渗透、健康饮食的概念，是一本适用于多个主题学习的故事书。
故事从月光下的一颗虫卵开始，刚出生的小毛毛虫总是感到很饥饿，它一路爬一路吃，每天都吃下不同的东西。
最后毛毛虫变得又大又胖，还为自己盖了一个房子。2个星期后，它“破茧成蝶”，变成了一只漂亮的蝴蝶！
此外，这是一本洞洞书，每页的食物上面都有一个小洞，看上去就像被毛毛虫啃了一遍。共读时，孩子们会忍不住用手指头挖这些洞，就像毛毛虫一样，形象又有趣。
下面我就带大家一起读一读这本书吧：
In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf.
月光下，有一个小小的卵躺在一片叶子上。
One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and--pop!--
out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar.
周日的早晨，温暖的太阳升起来。嘭！
一只很小的饥饿的毛毛虫从卵里钻了出来。
He started to look for some food.
他开始去找一些食物。
On Monday he ate through one apple, but he was still hungry.
星期一，它吃了一个苹果，但是他还是很饿。
On Tuesday he ate through two pears, but he was still hungry.
星期二，它吃了两个梨，但是他还是很饿。
On Wednesday he ate through three plums, but he was still hungry.
星期三，它吃了三颗李子，但是他还是很饿。
On Thursday he ate through four strawberries, but he was still hungry.
星期四，他吃了四颗草莓，但是他还是非常饿。
On Friday he ate through five oranges, but he was still hungry.
星期五，他吃了五个橘子，但是他还是非常饿。
On Saturday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice-cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake, and one slice of watermelon. That night he had a stomachache!
星期六，他吃了一块巧克力蛋糕、一个甜筒、一块泡菜、一块瑞士奶酪、 一片香肠、一个棒棒糖、一块樱桃馅饼、一个热狗、一个纸杯蛋糕和一片西瓜。那天晚上它就肚子疼了！
The next day was Sunday again. The caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf, and after that he felt much better.
第二天又到了星期天了。毛毛虫吃了一片新鲜的绿叶子，然后他感觉好多了。
Now he wasn’t hungry any more --
and he wasn’t a little caterpillar any more. He was a big, fat caterpillar.
现在它终于不再饿了——
而且它再也不是一只小毛毛虫，他成了一只又大又胖的毛毛虫了。
He built a small house, called a cocoon, around himself. He stayed inside for more than two weeks. Then he nibbled a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out and…
它建造了一座小房子，称作“茧"，包裹着他，他在里面待了超过两周的时间。然后它在茧里咬了一个小洞，让自己往外挣脱……
He was a beautiful butterfly!
它变成了一只美丽的蝴蝶啦！
