下面几个
你是不是都知道呢
go bananas
to become extremely angry or excited
e.g. She'll go bananas when you tell her the news.
你若告诉她这个消息，她会气疯的。
关于go bananas的来源《牛津词典》也说不清这个表达何时有了发疯的意思。
有一种说法，猩猩看香蕉时候，极度兴奋，陷入癫狂，所以go bananas意思和go ape 意思相似，表示发疯、情绪失控。
还有一种说法，香蕉原产东南亚，而印尼有一种香蕉酒，容易醉，醉了就耍酒疯。
curry favour
（尤指对当权者）讨好，奉承，拍马屁
to praise someone, especially someone in authority, in a way that is not sincere, in order to get some advantage for yourself

e.g. He's always trying to curry favour with the boss.
他总是想方设法拍老板马屁。
光看这俩单词的组成，大家可能猜不出是拍马屁的意思。
咖喱curry，大家都知道来源于印度，但其实这个表达和咖喱并没有半毛钱关系。
“curry favour”来源于法语：“couraier fauvel”。
Fauvel 是 14 世纪法国的一个野心勃勃的马，通过贿赂高层，Fauvel成了宫廷红人。（大家可以看上图感受一下咩哈哈）
在之后，上流社会的人纷纷阿谀奉承 Fauvel ，就是 conraier Fauvel，conraier 在古法语中，意思是准备、整理、给马梳毛。也不知道从何时开始，到了英语当中，因为发音相近，就变成了 curry favour。
as brown as a berry
形容皮肤晒得很黑
having tanned skin due to sun exposure.
Primarily heard in UK, Australia.
e.g. She was as brown as a berry when she came back from Spain.
她从西班牙度假回来的时候，皮肤晒得很黑。
berry浆果，和浆果一样棕，就是指皮肤晒得很黑，和成熟的果子一样，黑里透红。
几百年前，英国大诗人乔叟（Chaucer）在《坎特伯雷故事集》（Canterbury Tales）里就使用了这个表达，说马儿 as brown as a berry。
as cool as a cucumber
（尤指出奇地）镇静，冷静，泰然自若
very calm or very calmly, especially when this is surprising
e.g. She walked in as cool as a cucumber, as if nothing had happened.
她泰然自若地走进来，好像什么事也没发生过。
这里的cool是沉着的，冷静的意思，而不是指冷。在英语中最早的使用记录可追溯到 1732 年：
"I ... cool as a cucumber could see The rest of womankind."
plum forget
忘得精光

e.g. I plum forgotyour birthday.
我完全忘了你的生日。
Plum 是 plumb 的变形，plumb是个非正式用法， 意思是 completely，plum forget 就是忘得精光的意思。
big cheese
大人物
an important person in a company or an organization with a lot of influence
e.g. He is a big cheese in the company.
他在公司很有影响力。
big cheese，大奶酪？不不不，是大人物的意思。类似表达还有 big fish, big gun, big shot, big wheel。
cheese 的形容词 cheesy，除了表示奶酪味的，还有个意思，蹩脚的、劣质的，比如cheesy adverts粗俗的广告。
但在 19 世纪，cheesy 意思却完全相反，表示一流的。
chew the fat
闲聊，闲谈
to talk with someone in an informal and friendly way
e.g. We sat in a bar most of the evening just chewing the fat.
那天晚上大部分时间我们坐在酒吧里聊天。
嚼嚼肥肉，这是什么意思？chew the fat 就是愉快地八卦、闲谈。这个表达是怎么来的呢？
N个版本的传说：有说水手休息时，嚼腌肉。有说源自北美印第安人或者因纽特人，闲暇时候，嚼动物皮毛，还有说是英国农民嚼烟熏肉。还有一说，这个表达，最早见于 1885 年关于驻印度英军的一本书里。在金属弹药筒发明前，大多数子弹都包在浸过动物脂肪的纸或布里头，用的时候，士兵拿牙咬开，有时没事时候也咬咬，缓解紧张情绪，减少减少对烟草的渴望。
salad days
青葱岁月
during the period of time when you were a young person and had little experience
e.g. I met her in my salad days.
我遇到她时正值青涩年华。
salad days这个表达有个特别高贵的出身：莎士比亚的《安东尼与克莉奥佩特拉》（Anthony and Cleopatra）。
第一幕结尾，克莉奥佩特拉，也就是埃及艳后，悔恨自己年轻时候与凯撒鬼混，说：
My salad days,
When I was green in judgment: cold in blood,to say as I said then!
But, come, away;Get me ink and paper:He shall have every day a several greeting,or I'll unpeople Egypt.
