桃花不叫peach flower,正确说法是?
开花用bloom, blossom还是flower?
枯萎和凋谢,英文有何区别?

妈妈:冬天过去了,春天来了。
Would you like to go out and take a walk and see the flowers?
你想出去走走,看看花吗?
Child: Mommy, I would love to.
宝宝:妈妈,我挺想去的。
I will put my shoes on right now!
我现在就去穿鞋!

Daffodils 水仙花① Magnolia 木兰②
Child: What are those yellow ones growing out of the ground over there?
宝宝: 那边地上长的小黄的是什么呀?
Mom: Those are daffodils!
妈妈:那些是水仙花!
Daffodil读作 ['dæfədil]。
They are the first flowers of spring.
它们是春天最先开花的。
They have six petals and the middle looks like a little cup.
它们有六片花瓣,中间的看起来像个小杯子。
They will last for about a month.
它们能开大约一个月。
Then the flower will wither.
然后花儿就会枯萎。
根据《现代汉语词典》的解释,枯萎:干枯萎缩,凋谢:脱落,我们认为,凋谢对应的英文是fall,枯萎对应wilt和wither。Wilt和wither都有干枯和将要死去的意思,后者所处阶段更接近最终的死亡。
Child: Can I smell them, Mommy?
宝宝:我能闻闻它们吗,妈妈?
Mom: Of course!
妈妈:当然可以!
Child: They smell really nice!
宝宝:它们闻起来好香啊!
Mommy, what is that big beautiful pink flower on that tree?
妈妈,那棵树上的粉色大花是什么啊?
Mom: That is a magnolia.
妈妈:那是木兰。
Magnolia读作 [mæg'nəuliə]。
A magnolia is an icon of early spring.
木兰是早春的标志。
It has large flowers.
它的花朵很大。
Normally it has 6 very large petals.
它一般有6片大花瓣。
They only bloom for a couple of weeks and then fall off the tree.
它们只能开几周,然后就从树上落下了。
以下四个词都可以做动词表示开花,口语中常用顺序是:bloom > come out > flower > blossom。但是,blossom仅表示果树的开花和花。

Cherry blossom 樱花③
Child: Mommy, what are those little flowers on that tree?
宝宝:妈妈,那棵树上的小花是什么呀?
Mom: That is the cherry blossom tree.
妈妈:那是樱花树。
Cherry blossom比日文译音sakura更常用。樱花树的主要功能是观赏,因此它的英文翻译是cherry blossom tree,樱花树和cherry tree-樱桃树开的花都叫cherry blossom。
It's something that is very special in Asia.
它是亚洲特有的。
They bloom for around 14 days, and then they fall from the tree.
它们能开大约14天,然后就从树上落下了。
They have 5 petals normally, but some can have ten or twenty.
它们一般有5片花瓣,但有的能有10片或者20片。
In Japan, they have picnics under cherry blossom trees to celebrate spring.
在日本,人们会在樱花树下野餐来庆祝春天的来临。

Mom: Look over there at all those colorful flowers.
妈妈:过来看这些五颜六色的花呀。
Child: Oh wow, there is yellow, red, and purple!

What are those called, Mommy?
它们叫什么呀,妈妈?
Mom: They are called tulips, and they symbolize love.
妈妈:它们叫郁金香,它们象征着爱。
They grow in many colors like red, orange, pink, and yellow.
它们有很多种颜色,比如红色、橘黄色、粉色和黄色。
They bloom for up to six weeks before they wither and die.
它们最多能开六周,然后就会枯萎和死去。
They grow from a bulb and will grow every year.
它们从一个球茎长起,每年都会生长。
Child: And what are those purple ones up there?
宝宝:那边那些紫色的是什么呢?
Mom: Those are called lilacs.

Lilac读作 ['lailək]。
They grow on bushes not trees.

They smell very sweet.

其他美国春天常见的花

不要和香港的市花紫荆花-bauhinia [bɔ:'hiniə]混淆。
3. Higan Cherry 彼岸樱⑧
Higan读作 ['haigən]。
4. Crepe myrtle 紫薇⑨
Crepe myrtle读作 [kreip 'mɜ:təl]。
II. Other Common Spring Flowers in China
其他中国春天常见的花
1. Japanese plum blossom 梅花⑩
由于日本对外交流开始得比较早,很多亚洲的事物是最先从日本传到西方的,因此英语翻译会在前面加上Japanese,或者采用的日语译音。小雅认为,管它叫Chinese plum blossom也是可以的。
2. Japanese magnolia 玉兰⑪
同理,小雅认为,管它叫Chinese magnolia也是可以的。
3. Winter jasmine 迎春花⑫
4. Peach blossom 桃花⑬
Flower泛指所有的花,blossom专指果树开的花。很多果树开的花都可以通过果子名称 blossom表示,如peach blossom 桃花,以及下文的几种花。
