感觉很久没说俚语了，今天我们就来随便讲几个有趣的俚语小知识吧~小伙伴们见谅哈，昨天高考结束了，看了很多孩子开心的出考场，就让我想到了曾经高考的自己，高考无非就是考试，test测验，先说一个与这个有关的俚语吧！
1、Acid test
Acid英文释义：a chemical substance that has a pH of less than 7. Strong acids can burn holes in material or damage your skin.
即是指pH值小于7的化学物质。强酸会在材料上烧出洞来或损伤皮肤.
test英文释义： a set of questions, exercises, or practical activities to measure someone’s skill, ability, or knowledge.
即指测试某人的技能、能力或知识的一组问题、练习或实践活动.
那Acid test是什么意思呢？难道是上化学课时说的“酸性测试”，哈哈，当然没有这么简单。
首先我们来看Acid test的原义：using nitric acid to do a test for gold.
即化学实验中采用酸性液体测试金属是否为金的方式。
而剑桥词典给出的定义是：the true test of the value of something.
即引申意思可以理解为“关键性的测试、试金石”等。
The new party is doing better and better in the polls, but the acid test will be the next election .
这个新型政党在民调中一路高涨，然而下届选举将会是真正的试金石。
The new iphone is amazing but will people buy it？That's the acid test.
新苹果手机很赞，但是会有人买吗？这才是真正的考验。
2、keep up with the Joneses
这是我想说的第二个俚语，有一部美国电影，叫做 Keep up with the Joneses. 如果不知道这个俚语的意思，想必小伙伴们压根都猜不到它讲述的是个什么故事。
keep up with 意思是 “跟上；赶上”。keep up with the Joneses 字面意思是 ：赶上琼斯。它的真正意思是：跟有钱人比排场；攀比。
这个短语意思是怎么来的呢？
这又是一个由作家创造的说法，这位作家是一个漫画家。这位美籍漫画家就是亚瑟·莫曼德 （Authur Momand）, 他在1913年开始创作连载漫画，称为 《跟琼斯家比阔气》（keep up with the Joneses）。
两年后，同名动画在院线上上映。Jones 在美国也是一个菜市场名字，而莫曼德则使用这个名字来比喻 “邻居”。
“Keeping up with the Joneses”refers to the comparison to one's neighbor as a benchmark for social caste or the accumulation of material goods.
To fail to"keep up with the Joneses"is perceived as cultural inferiority.
