民国三十四年八月十日晚八时闻爆竹声知日敌乞降狂喜书感
王冷斋
汹涌鲸波万里平,降幡片片出东瀛。
捷音电闪传寰宇,爆竹雷喧起满城。
艰苦八年完胜利,阴沉一旦复光明。
头颅拚掷宁无价,必死方能庆更生。
1945年8月
王冷斋(1892~1960),福建福州人。“七七”事变时,任宛平县县长。新中国成立后,任中央文史研究馆馆员、北京文史馆副馆长。有《卢沟桥纪事五十首》。
WANG Lengzhai(1892-1960), a native of Fuzhou, Fujian Province. During the July 7th Incident in 1937 (also known as the Lugou Bridge Incident), he served as County Head of Wanping County. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he worked as a member of the Central Research Museum of Culture and History and Deputy Curator of the Beijing Museum of Culture and History. Wang authored50 Poems Recording the Lugou Bridge Incident. (任诚刚 胡燕茹译)
Over Rejoiced When Hearing Firecrackers
Celebrating Japan’s Surrender at 8 o’Clock
on the Evening of August 10th of 1934 of the Republic Reign

O’er the boundless ocean giant waves arise;
Jap’s flags to surrender flutter to drown.
News of victory lightning quakes the skies;
Fire-crackers thunder to cheer up the town.
Eight years’ great pain results in a great win;
For all thick clouds the sun lights up the earth;
Priceless heads can be lopped but won’t give in;
One dies before he rises from rebirth.

ZHAO Yanchun: Professor of English at Shanghai University, Director of Center for Translation of Chinese Culture, Editor of Translating China, President of International Sinology and Education Society, President of Chinese Culture Translation and International Promotion Committee, Executive President of Chinese Classics Bilinguals’ Association, Vice President of China Language Education Association, a proponent of the principle of translating poesie into poesie and classic into classic. His translations have been widely reported.
