本诗选自《乐府诗集》，描写了春去秋来之间，万物由盛而衰，水流到海，无法复回的自然现象，托物比兴，升华主旨到人生顿悟：精力充沛的时候不作出努力，衰老时唯有黯然伤怀。

of Conservatoire, describing the natural phenomenon that spring goes, autumn comes, everything changes from flourish to decadence and goes without return. It expresses the emotion through metaphor to the level of a truth of life, that is “In prime if you don’t try, When old you can but sigh.”
