音乐创作人和诗人，都是感情丰富，对周遭事物敏感的人；很多时候都把个人的感受，抒发到歌曲和诗词上。Don Mclean 是一个感情丰富和艺术造诣很深的创作歌手。他有多首歌的题材，都取于凡高Van Gogh的作品，这首歌是其中之一。
Don 有着一个坎坷的青少年时期，他十五岁时父亲去世；当他出第一张专辑时，婚姻触礁；面对着这一切，他觉得与有名的荷兰画家凡高Van Gogh有着同病相怜的遭遇。

- Blue --- 蓝色，在英语中，常用作为“忧郁”的代名词。
- Used to --- Use (v) 单词的意思是“用、使用”，但是加了“To”，就变成“Use to”= 习惯的意思。
- Chestnut --- (n) 栗子的意思。在英语常用这个字来作为“褐色”的意思。
- Meant --- 是 Mean = 意思的过去式，它与一般过去式不同，不是加“-ed”而只加“-t”，小伙伴必须要记住。请留意读音也有不同！
