[赞]1.compete如何记忆？
我们把compete拆分两个部分进行理解，第一部分是com-，第二部分是pet。
Com- 它的通转词就是我们单词come，表示“过来”的意思，一个人过来了，人数就不只一个人了，因此com- 可以理解为“一起，一同”的意思。
Pet，在这里的意思不是我们学过的“宠物”的意思，它是这个单词的核心部分，当字母p通转成f, 元音字母e互换成o并且双写，pet就会改成foot，表示“腿，足”的意思，那么foot的行为就是用来行走跑步的，因此pet作为一种行为，可以理解成“追赶，追求，渴望”的意思。
结论是，把com-的“ 一起”，pet的“追求”，合并起来后，compete可以理解为“一起去追求某样事物”，因此翻译成“竞争，比赛”。
[赞]2.compete我们如何使用呢？
这个单词是一个不及物动词，它使用过程中，紧接着要么不加宾语，如果加宾语，则需要使用介词with/against/in/for。
[太阳]第一种用法，一般的用法就是compete with/against 某人 （for 某物）,意思就是“和某人竞争，为了某物”。
例子：Every team would compete with each other for honor. 每个团队会为了荣誉而互相竞争。
[太阳]第二种用法，就是compete in 比赛 表示“参加竞赛”
例子：No one in our class dared to compete in the football game. 我们班没有人敢参加足球比赛。
