put on airs，摆在空气中？经常看罐头菌文章的老粉丝应该都会知道，英语经常会像中文一样，会有一些不能直译的英语用法（毕竟罐头菌经常会讲解一些俚语以及习语）。今天罐头菌就来说一下，put on airs以及一些关于air——空气的相关词组。
1.put on airs 摆架子
相信大部分人都不会知道这个词组的翻译，其实它是指我们中文常说的“摆架子”。例如经常会有传闻说某些明星，很喜欢“摆架子”，我们就可以用put on airs来表示。
Stop putting on airs, Mary, you're not some world-class actor.
Mary，别摆架子了，你并不是世界级的演员。
2.（up） in the air 还没决定，悬而未决
当事情还没有做出决定的时候，我们就可用（up） in the air来表示。就像决定人还没有完全拍板，还只是把决定的权利悬吊在空中一样。
Because the whole town protested plans to build a new shopping center, that proposal is now up in the air.
由于整个城镇都反对建设新购物中心的计划，因此这提案还没有决定下来。
PS：同时还有另一个相似的词组——on the air，经常看视频的小伙伴应该知道这个词组，表示“正在播放，正在直播”的意思。
Please try to control your language, we can't have any cursing while we're on air.
请控制一下你的发言，当我们在直播的时候，不能有任何的脏话。
3.clear the air 清新空气；消除隔阂
clear the air一般在不同环境能表示两个不同意思。首先是字面上的意思，“让空气变得很清新”，例如说在下雨之后，或者使用空气清新剂之后，空气会让人很清爽。
The rain has helped clear the air.
一场雨下来，让空气很清新。
同时，这里的air也能表示一种“氛围”，就是当两人独处很尴尬的氛围，而clear the air则能表示让两人的“隔阂消除”。
Once we cleared the air, we found that it had just been a simple misunderstanding.
当我们消除隔阂之后，我们发现原来这只是小小的误会而已。
4.air one's grievances（complaints） 发牢骚，抱怨
air one's grievances（complaints），这里的air是使用了它的动词意思“表达意见，看法”。
The employees used the meeting to air their grievances about their salaries and working conditions.
雇员在会议上表达出他们对于工资以及工作环境的不满。
