口语｜当服务员说 It's on the house！ 难道是要去屋顶取餐？
当你听到 It's on the house！
你的第一反应是：啊？谁上房了？
难道是熊孩子上房揭瓦吗？
No！no！no！
1.如果，你在咖啡店遇到服务员跟你说：
It's on the house.
你要微笑地回应说：Cheers!（谢谢！）这是为什么呢？
It’s on the house 表示费用算在商家头上，也就是免费招待。这是一句俚语，并不表示“在房子上”，因为It's on ... 表示“费用算在......的头上”。
除了这个说法，我们还可以用那些词语表示“免单，免费”呢？

当有人对你说 I'm home，你觉得是什么意思呢？
“我在家”？
No！no！no！
1Home只能表示家？
如果你在家里接到朋友电话问：你在哪？
可不要说：I'm home.
对方十有八九会继续问：你去哪了？因为这句英文的意思并不是“我在家”。
I'm home的意思其实：我回来了，我到家了(是刚从外面回来、刚到家时的时候说的）。
例：
I'm home. Here's the gift for you.
我回来了。这是给你的礼物。
2at home
如果要表达 “我在家”，需要加介词 at：I'm at home。
例：
I don't like walking around in my shoes when I'm at home.
我在家里不喜欢穿着鞋走来走去。
回家是 come home还是 go home？
①你和在家里的室友说你要回家了，你俩住在一个地方，对于室友来说，你是回去，所以用come home。
例：
I will probably come home after midnight, so don't bother to wait up.
我可能午夜过后回家，别等着我。
②你和同事下班告别说你要回家，对于同事来说，你是去另一个地方，所以要说 go home。
例：
I think I'll call it a day and go home.

3好多人会认为 home等同于 house, 那真的是这样吗？
house与home这两个词又应该怎么区别呢？这两个词的意思有一些重叠部分。在区分时需要记住以下这两点：
a house 是一个实际存在的有形房屋；
a home 是一个和我们在情感上所连接的地方。
house
We live in a three-bedroom house on a quiet street.
注意: house这里指的是一幢房子，不是 a flat单元房，或 an apartment 公寓。
例：
It's a typical west London house—two storeys, three bedrooms and a small garden.
我们房子的样式在西伦敦很常见，房子有两层，三间卧室和一个小花园。
All the houses on my street have doubled in value in 10 years.
我们那条街上所有房子的价格在过去十年间翻了一番。
home
能被称作 home的地方除了可以是一所公寓楼里的一个单元房，也可以是供人居住的一条船房。
那么除了这些用来住人的房屋以外, home这个词的意思也可以延展到 a city 或 a country，一个城市或国家。
例：
For me, London will always be home, but my parents feel more at home in Italy.
对于我来说，伦敦永远都是我的家；不过我父母则觉得意大利才是他们的故乡。
There's no place like home.
没有比家更好的地方了。
I'm going home now.
我要回家了。
（注意：不能说“I'm going house now.”）
