听力录音Text 1
M: Can I borrow your car for a few hours this afternoon, Sue?
W: Sure, Bill. But I need it back by 5:00.
M: I’ll have it back by 4:30 with a full tank.
Text 2M: Excuse me, is this dictionary available?
W: Uh, Oxford Learner's Dictionary? Sorry, it's sold out.
M: Oh, that's too bad.
Text 3W: I wish I didn't have to make a special trip to the post office to get my package.
M: Well, if you call them in the morning, they'll give the package to your mail carrier to bring out to you.
Text 4W: Can't you knock on the door before you enter my office next time?
M: Sorry! It's just that I’m in such a hurry.
Text 5M: What do you enjoy about holidays and special occasions?
W: I enjoy seeing family and friends, and I enjoy inviting people to my home. What about you?
M: I enjoy everything about holidays.
Text 6W: Have you been to the new shopping mall that just opened last month?
M: Not yet. I saw a billboard ad for it last week.
W: I saw a lot of ads on the train. I really want to go!
M: You like shopping? Perhaps we can go together then.
W: OK! Could you give me a ride in your car?
M: Sure.
W: I can't wait! The advertising has been so persuasive.
M: I know!
W: I guess it's had a strong effect on us!
M: Ha! You're right.
Text 7W: I keep feeling dizzy, and I’ve got a headache.
M: How long has this been going on?
W: It started yesterday.
M: You’ve been studying too much recently.
W: I have no other choice. Next month will be the most important exam of this term.
M: I can understand that. But anyway, you should take better care of yourself.
W: What should I do now?
M: I think you should stay in bed for a little while and I will call the doctor.
W: It's very kind of you. Thank you very much.
Text 8W: Honey, what are you doing? Come and have your breakfast. You don't want to be late for work a second time this week, do you?
M: Of course I don’t. But I can't find my glasses. Have you seen them?
W: Oh, dear. You're always forgetting where you put them. What did you do just now?
M: I took a shower just a few minutes ago.
W: Maybe you left them in the bathroom.
M: No. I checked there but I didn't find them.
W: What else did you do?
M: After the shower, I went to the living room. Oh, I remember I read a magazine there. You know I can't read without my glasses.
W: Then you must have left them there. Go there quickly, I’m sure you'll find them.
Text 9W: Hi, what can I do for you?
M: Yes, I've come to inquire about renting a university apartment.
W: What sort of apartment are you looking for?
M: Uh, an apartment with a bedroom and a small bathroom.
W: Well, that shouldn't be a problem. What sort of price were you thinking of?
M: Could you give me some idea?
W: Certainly. They range from $ 240 to $ 480 a month.
M: Oh, I see. If I pay $ 240 a month, what kind of apartment can I have?
W: You need to share with 2 other students and travel 3 miles to the university.
M: Three miles on foot?
W: You don't have to. There's a subway station just in front of the apartment.
M: That sounds OK to me. I'll take that one. By the way, what kind of facilities does it have? I mean, is there a television or refrigerator?
W: I'm afraid not. The service and facilities depend on how much you pay.
M: OK. I understand. Thank you very much for your information.
Text 10This history of plastic is no longer than you might expect. In fact, the first man-made plastic was made over a hundred years ago. It was discovered both by an Englishman and an American in the same year, but it was the American who first developed it on a large scale during the 1860s.
Everybody was excited by this new material because it was so cheap. Poor workers were able to buy plastic collars. These plastic collars were hard and uncomfortable, but they were easy to wash. The poor workers could clean them every evening with just soap and water. Poor mothers, who had not been able to afford toys for their children, were now able to buy inexpensive ones made of plastic.
However, plastic has one serious fault. Some kinds of plastic can catch fire very easily, and when they do, a poisonous gas is produced. What's worse, plastic takes a very long time to break down so it causes serious pollution. We now use the term “white pollution" to refer to plastic pollution.
