你的专业，和你爸妈口中的你的专业，似乎从来都不是一个东西；如果再转述到亲戚那里，那这个差距就更大了。
每次想想自己这磨死人的专业，再听听别人口中那接地气的描述，简直比窦娥还委屈啊。
极度委屈
而这其中最常被误解的，可能就是英大们很熟悉的“英语专业”了吧。
其实并没有什么“英语专业”好吗？英语是好大一块呢。
“英语专业”分成好多细分专业：

English Language and Literature
英语笔译
English Translation
同声传译
Simultaneous Interpretation
商务英语
Business English
英语教学
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
不过这些区别在爸爸妈妈和亲戚眼里都是不重要的，概括起来只需要一个短语：学英语的。
而且不管你学哪个专业，别人对你的看法也都是：
你学英语的啊？那你看美剧不用看字幕的吧？
你听英文歌都听得懂的吧？
这个怎么翻译啊？

统一回复：
这个事真的已经被整得没脾气了，现在再被别人说是学英语的，连自己都觉得自己就是个学英语的了。
不过说真的，英语方向的同学被误认成“学英语的”，似乎差别也不算太大，
但还有好多其他专业的同学，就没这么幸运了，
他们啊，我的天，真是跳进黄河也洗不清了。

神经病学
你：
我是学神经病学的，也就是研究神经系统的疾病的。
I study neurology, which means I study the diseases of the nervous system.
别人：
他研究精神病人的。
He studies psychopaths.

我的专业是食品科学，我们研究的是和食品有关的生物学、物理学还有工程问题。
