01 英汉传神翻译欣赏怎样翻译下面的英语句子才比较传神？
Fate plays tricks.
相关段落和背景信息：作者被选上了宇航员，而他落选的同学后来却成了战俘。

难点分析和翻译技巧：这里的句子不难理解，难点在于中文的表达。play a trick on someone是常见的习惯用语，意思是：to carry out a trick, deception, or practical joke against someone（耍弄、捉弄或欺骗某人）。如果译为“命运总是耍花招”或者“命运总是玩把戏”既不符合常理，也不符合这里的语境。
试译：在最早的几次攻击中被抓做战俘的还有我在海军研究生院的朋友鲍勃·舒马赫，他本来可以成为宇航员队伍中的一员而和我们一样安全地待在休斯敦。命运有时也会捉弄人。
翻译时我为什么加上“有时也会”？原因有两个：
1. 命运并不总是捉弄人。
2. 表达方式和语气要和上下文协调一致。

I was still a gung-ho flier, but from that day on, I carried a new respect for my dangerous profession.
