繁若想起来当年在专业课上讲到的一个非常有意思的词汇：underwrite。
首先大家请花点时间看看这个词，前缀是under后缀是write。
under是在下面的意思，write是写书写的意思。
那么大家联想到哪个法律术语呢？
没错我相信很多人都会联想到票据法中的背书转让行为。
所谓背书转让，就是在把票据交付给对手方的时候在票据后面写上自己的名字。
这样票据在流转过程中就能看到前面经手的所有人，有助于防止票据造假。
比如票据失窃，由于你不前手背书的所有人，你就需要伪造背书，而伪造背书是违法的。
上面由词汇的前缀和后缀推出的词汇意思其实是错误的。
Underwrite的词义我么查字典可以得出三种意思：
•1 to accept financial responsibility for an activity so that you will pay for special costs or for losses it may make 承担经济责任（包括支付特别费用或损失）
•2 to accept responsibility for an insurance policy so that you will pay money in case loss or damage happens 承担保险责任；承保
•3 to agree to buy shares that are not bought by the public when new shares are offered for sale 包销，承销（未获认购的新发行股份）
其中最重要的是第三种意思，也就是在证券发行过程中的承销行为。
当然也可以表示承担某种责任的意思。
那肯定有人要问：背书的英语怎么说？
背书的英语单词其实是：endorse！
我们看看endorse的三种用法：
•1 to say publicly that you support a person, statement or course of action （公开）赞同，支持，认可
I wholeheartedly endorse his remarks. 我真诚地赞同他的话。
Members of all parties endorsed a ban on land mines. 各党派成员都赞同禁用地雷。
•2 to say in an advertisement that you use and like a particular product so that other people will want to buy it （在广告中）宣传，吹嘘（某一产品）
•3 to write your name on the back of a cheque so that it can be paid into a bank account （在支票背面）签名，背书
•4 [usually passive] (BrE) to write details of a driving offence on sb's DRIVING LICENCE （在驾驶执照上）记录违章事项
•You risk having your licence endorsed. 你这样做驾照可能被记录违章。
其中最重要的意思也是第三个：在支票背面签名、背书。
而且endorse在日常英语里也可以表示公开的支持和认可的意思。比如说例句：
I endorse his remarks. 我赞同他的话。
