基本家庭成员
一般成员包括父母（parent）、子女（child）、配偶（spouse）、兄弟姊妹（sibling）、祖父母（grandparent）、孙子女（grandson / granddaughter）、堂表亲、叔伯姨婶、侄子侄女…等。
● father / dad / daddy 父亲、爸爸
● mother / mom / mommy 母亲、妈妈
● son 儿子
● daughter 女儿
● husband 丈夫、先生
● wife 妻子、太太
A: Why is Tony so excited?（Tony 怎么这么兴奋？）
B: His wife is expecting a baby; he can’t wait to become a new dad.（他的太太怀上孩子了；他等不及要成为新手爸爸了。）

其他家庭成员
英文常利用一些字或字根，如 great-、in-law、step、half…等来表示亲属关系。其中，great- 表示「远一辈」的亲属关系，连用两个 great- 则表示「远两辈」，以此类推。例如：
● great-grandfather 曾祖父
● great-grandmother 曾祖母
● great-great-grandparent 高祖父母
● great-grandson 曾孙
● great-granddaughter 曾孙女
● great-great-grandchild 玄孙
I never met my great-grandfather. He passed away long before I was born.（我从未见过我的曾祖父。他早在我出生前就已经过世了。）
用 in-law 表示因婚姻（marriage）关系成为家人的亲属。例如：
● father-in-law 岳父、公公
● mother-in-law 岳母、婆婆
● son-in-law 女婿
● daughter-in-law 媳妇
● brother-in-law 姊夫、妹夫、大伯子、小叔子、大舅子、小舅子
● sister-in-law 兄嫂、弟妹、大姑子、小姑子、大姨子、小姨子
My brother-in-law is a humorous guy. Everyone in my family loves him.（我的姊夫非常幽默。我们全家人都很喜欢他。）
用 step- 表示因父亲或母亲再婚而成为家人的亲属。例如：
● stepfather 继父、后父
● stepmother 继母、后妈
● stepson 继子
● stepdaughter 继女
用 half- 表示「非同父同母」。例如：
● half brother 同父异母或同母异父的兄弟
● half sister 同父异母或同母异父的姊妹
A: Did you just say she’s your sister? But you don’t look alike.（你刚是说她是你姊姊吗？但你们长得不像。）
B: Well, she’s my half sister, actually.（嗯，她是我同父异母的姊姊，其实。）
用 adopted 及 adoptive 表示因收养（adoption）关系成为家人的亲属。例如：
● adoptive father 养父
● adoptive mother 养母
● adopted son 养子
● adopted daughter 养女
Sandy is adopted, but her adoptive parents treat her as if she were their own.（Sandy 是被收养的，但她的养父母对她视若己出。）
学完这些英文的亲属称呼，有没有觉得比起中文，相对简单许多呢？不过简单归简单，使用这些亲属称谓时，还是要注意用对喔！不然妹婿叫成 sister-in-law，那可就尴尬了呢！
